“There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.” – Ray Bradbury
I am not a big resolutions person but a wise person suggested I give it a try in 2022. She said that if I want to get something done, I should put it out there on a piece of paper or anywhere I can see clearly, and it will be done. So I am going to give it a try and put my book list out here. I am planning to read some of these books for a very long time but never got around to reading them.
So here it goes:
War And Peace. A Book By Leo Tolstoy.
This classic novel has been on my list since my school days but I did not have the resources to buy it back then. I remember reading a chapter on Leo Tolstoy’s life in my syllabus. I was impressed by his life story and have wanted to read the greatest work of his life. As my brother said after checking out the pages of this book “It’s a bigggg project.” But I am ready to tick this off of my bucket list.
And Then There Were None By Agatha Cristie.
Does anyone remember the thrill of seeing suspense thrillers on the library shelves and excitement from issuing out the book to reading the last page of the book? I still get the chills. It will be great to curl up in my blanket with this mystery in my hand and spend the day reading it.
40 Rules Of Love By Elif Shafak.
One of the bestsellers from Elif Shafak, the book is about a woman who has lost hope in love in her life and she discovers the true meaning of love through a book in which Shams of Tabriz taught Rumi the true meaning of love. There are numerous interesting books under Elif Shafak’s name, but I will begin with this one.
The Sun And Her Flowers By Rupi Kaur.
Rupi Kaur has pulled the heartstrings of her fans with her debut book Milk and honey. There are so many emotions inside a woman for which there are no words, but Rupi Kaur has successfully turned them into beautiful poetry. This book is a must-read for me after reading her first book.
21 Lessons For The 21st Century By Yuval Noah Harari.
I am currently reading this author’s first book, Sapiens. I am simply amazed by the facts and logic given by the author in the book. His dedication and years of research are reflected in Sapiens. In 21 lessons for the 21st century, The author has given an insight into what is happening in the present world and how the common man can keep up with it. I cannot wait to start this one.
Homo Deus. A Book By Yuval Noah Harari.
Coming from the same author is Homo Deus. If I like a book from a certain author, I like to read more of their work. I think the same is happening with Yuval Noah Harari right now. Continuing his legacy, Yuval Noah Harari has this book to his name which explains a lot about the human future. Full of humour and wit, it will be a fun read.
Never Split The Difference By Chris Voss And Tahl Raz.
This book came highly recommended by Ali Abdaal. It contains lessons about making negotiations in your life, for instance, to buy a car, to get your spouse to do house chores, or to negotiate salary with your boss. I think I can use some tips and tricks in this matter given how bad of a negotiator I am.
48 Laws Of Power By Robert Green.
From prison inmates to Hollywood celebrities, everyone wants to read this book, hence the craze about it. It is basically a summary of lessons learned from great World leaders throughout time, presenting the tactics to have dominance over others. A must-read!
The Psychology Of Money By Morgan Housel.
This book is not about tips and tricks to save money, it is about our emotional connections with money. Humans can make large spreadsheets to manage their money but they make money decisions emotionally.
Our ego, love, outlook towards the world, all are involved when we spend, invest or save money. In other words, it goes to the atomic level, which brings me to the next book on my list.
Atomic Habits. A Book By James Clear.
Just like the previous book, this book takes us to the psychological level of habits. Why do we have certain habits, how to develop new ones and stick to them and how can some habits change our whole life! Every chapter is full of examples and each habit is broken down to the psychological level by James Clear. That is exactly why I want to read this book again.
A Promised Land By Barack Obama
This book has been sitting on the bookshelf for quite a long time. It even made its way to my bedside for a while but I lost my motivation along the way. I feel like it’s time to settle the accounts before I forget about everything I have read so far. It is a beautiful memoir of Former American President Barack Obama.
This was my list of the books I am going to read in 2022. I hope this list would help you choose some titles to read.
