Learning about Matthew Perry’s demise at the age of 54 was a piece of shocking news. Our beloved Chandler Bing is no more. If you are a Friends fan, you know his journey, his journey behind the scenes of the show, and it was incredible. The humour that he brought into his role never felt like it was rehearsed. It was the purest form of comedy one can see. Friends has been a huge part of our lives, and more of a culture than just a show. When we say Chandler Bing is a friend everyone can use, we have our reasons, and they are stated below:
He helped Joey without expecting anything back.
In the early days of Joey’s struggling career, Chandler pays his bills. He never asks for his money back. I would say, he is the reason Joey was able to stick to his dreams and does what he actually loves. He even keeps a room for Joey when he and Monica buy a new home in the last season.
He silently humours the family trauma instead of addressing it.
Even though he comes from a broken family, Chandler believes in family and love. His love for Monica is strong. He is a shy person but he goes to a great extent for Monica, by going to the sauna with Monica’s dad (the one where he sat on dad’s lap, naked!) and trying awkwardly socializing with him. When they realize that they cannot have children and try to adopt babies, Chandler reasons with the donor and convinces her to give them her babies. All because he knows how much Monica wants to be a mother and how much he himself needs a family.
All that said, he makes peace with his father in the end.
Chandler is socially awkward; Like most of us
There is one friend in the bunch who needs pushing when they are in social settings, Chandler is one of them, and he makes the wittiest jokes in those situations. His humour is a self-defence mechanism. That’s why his personality resonates with so many of us. Such friends only open in front of people they truly like and they value their friends.
He is horrible in giving advice, but best at making his friends smile
No matter how much Chandler tries, he cannot give advice, instead, he gets sarcastic. When friends ask him to stop making fun of them as a New Year’s resolution, he ends up losing that $50 bet he made with Ross. He cannot advise people, but he can lighten the mood with his wit.
Chandler knows how to make fun of himself
“Hi, I am Chandler Bing. I make jokes when I am uncomfortable.” This is Chandler Bing’s one of the funniest lines. He hides his pain under his humour. The funny dance he does when they are celebrating, who has the guts to go all out without caring how they will look? Chandler is the person who would go all out even when he knows that it would look funny.
He is that friend who has no idea what he wants from life
Not one of his friends understands what he does. Chandler works in a boring job but still climbs the ladder to be at one of the top positions. And he hates his job. But, he doesn’t know what he wants to do. It takes him a long time to finally leave his job.
A Very humble person who does not want to hurt anybody
Do you remember Janice? OH.MY.GADDDD. Chandler couldn’t even break up with her because he didn’t want to break her heart. Let me tell you one thing- It takes a very strong person to keep up with Janice. And that’s who Chandler is. He suffers silently but does not want to be honest when it comes to saying no.
